Since the year 1990, the EICV has always strived to promote the work and art practices of emerging Quebec artists and Quebec students. Searching to create and maintain its ties with local and international artist groups, the EICV’s goal is to create a space to explore the issues affecting contemporary video work and artist practices.
The EICV endeavors to delve into the possibilities of video art, and to exhibit work that challenges its limits. It is crucial in this sense to appeal to a diverse and eclectic audience, as much from the general public as from the artist population, for the purpose of pushing the boundaries within the realm of video art and new technologies. Essential to the EICV is the belief that the video artist needs to play, to explore, and to experiment; and that a wide range of outcomes is generated, and must be contemplated in the public realm.
At the heart of the event is the contest. A jury composed of well-established professionals from the video art community gives out prizes for a maximum value of $6000. Through this the EICV looks to encourage the emerging artist population and seeks to attribute recognition to outstanding young artists.
